Mission
The aim of the Faculty is to educate lawyers:
- who have learned concepts and institutions of basic
areas of positive law;
- who have learned at least one foreign language;
- who have learned the effects of globalization on
law;
- who have the ability to think analytically, solve
problems, make interpretations and use these skills for
solving legal problems;
- who will be able to contribute to the development of
their country with their knowledge, ethical values and
professional responsibility;
General Information
The Faculty of Law offers a four-year program of study
leading to a Bachelor of Law (LL.B.). Education at the
Faculty of Law started in 1996-1997 Academic Year with 183
students and this number reached 1800 in 2004-2005 Academic
Year.
The undergraduate program is 4 years. Students who do not
perform well in the English Proficiency exam are required to
attend the of School of Foreign Languages .
The degree program is based on the Turkish Legal System,
and is similar to the programs offered by Turkish law
faculties. Students who wish to pursue legal careers in the
TRNC will also be prepared in the essentials of the Cyprus
Legal System, through structured elective courses.
Quality of Graduates
Today the importance of a foreign language, especially
that of English, cannot be denied. Although there are many
lawyers in Turkey , those who know a foreign language are
few in number. That is why Professional Legal English plays
a very important role in our Program. Our students take
Professional Legal English starting from the freshman year
until they graduate. As a result, graduates of our Faculty,
being learned in a foreign language, become distinguished
lawyers.
Job Opportunities
There are a lot of job opportunities for graduates of
law. They can easily find employment both in the public and
the private sector after satisfying certain conditions like
being successful in certain exams. This is the most
important reason for the popularity of our Faculty.
According to statistical results, most of our graduates
become barristers. The second choice of law graduates is to
become judges or public prosecutors. Recently notary
services started to attract the graduates of law.
Graduates of our Faculty can find jobs as advocates or
legal advisors at public institutions like the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs, or they can exercise their profession in
the private sector.
